- Is the snout the same length as the head's "brain case" or longer ? → long snout
- Is the snout long and wide? → big snout
- Is the snout half the length of the head's "brain case" or shorter ? → short snout
- Is the snout short and narrow ? → small snout
- Is the snout thicker at the base and gradually narrows to a point/edge towards the end (wedge or cone shaped) ? → tapering snout
- Is the snout very angular and blunt (box shaped) ? → blocky snout
- Is the snout rounded or spherical (dome or ball shaped) ? → rounded snout
- Is the snout blends smoothly into the forehead or lack any distinctive separation (depressed nasal stop (nasion in humans), crease/seam) between the snout and "brain case" ? → contiguous snout
- There's no snout / Is flat ? → skip
